Gai Ikari / Gokai Silver is the Silver Ranger of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. A dedicated Super Sentai fanboy who got to live his dream by fighting alongside the Gokaigers, he is the only Earthling on the team and utilizes the powers of the 6th Rangers and similar heroes.

Story

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs Yudoku Sentai Sokaiger

Gai went back to the Zangyack homeworld with his team to find the Sokaigers. With Marvelous accepting Jack's challenge, Gai was pitted against Misakii, but they come to a draw and instead wish to get to know each other. With the other Gokaigers losing to their opponents, Gai and Misakii are captured by the Sokai Bat and Jack tries to poison Gai, but the human resists. When Misakii is struck by Blaxon for trying to save Marvelous, Gai calls him out for it, and Blaxon finally defies Jack to save the Gokaigers and expose his master's true nature. Ikari's Gokai Cellular grants Misakii, Bongar, Ayane and Kaprimarah the power to transform into additional Gokaigers, and together with the pre-established Gokaigers, they fight Jacktos Gill. When Sokai Bat assists SokaiOh in fighting GokaiOh, Gai and his new allies try to take down the Bat from the inside, but fail. Fortunately Machalcon arrives to bail them out, and the Gokaigers finally destroy Jacktos, avenging Blaxon. Gai and Ban convince SPD to grant the former Sokaigers a full pardon, and they part on fond terms.

Marvel vs Super Sentai

Gai was ambushed by Lord Drakkon, who took his Gokai Cellular before the other Gokaigers and Shin Avengers arrived to save his life. Spider Man helped Gai get his morpher back as he stood up to Drakkon, completely understanding that even though Gai doesn't need the suit to be a hero, he would still need it to help the Shin Avengers save humanity from the evil Stark Administration.

Gai fought with the Avengers Sentai Alliance in the Battle of Starktopia 01, destroying Nezi Silver, surviving GoZyuJin's destruction, confronting Lords Stark and Drakkon personally with the Shin Avengers, and then finally destroying the True Iron Majin along with Shin, Spidey, Shuri, Aka Renger, and Kiba Ranger piloting Mugen DaiZyuJin. After helping rebuild New York and attending Pepper Potts' funeral and Shin's speech, Gai returned to the Tokuverse with the Gokaigers and Super Sentai. He is currently on leave to visit Misakii on Planet Karrishu while recovering from the trauma of the Superhero Infinity War.

Personality

As the ideal Super Sentai fan, Gai took his role as a Ranger very seriously despite his inexperience, and became a true friend to his teammates through his part in showing them the true worth of protecting the Earth, and assisting them with his vast knowledge of the Super Sentai. He is enthusiastic, but sometimes naive to a fault. Gai is also quick to befriend Misakii, Shin Seigi and Peter Parker due to their mutual good personality traits, and even Peter Quill(they’re both the only Earthlings on their teams).

Gai was clearly the most visibly appalled by Blaxon’s cold disregard for Misakii’s moral objections, but when she tells Gai about Blaxon’s troubled past, he promises her the Gokaigers can help Misakii get through to her hardened friend somehow. He hopes accomplishing this can also convince the other Sokaigers to come clean on account of their respect for Blaxon. Gai is very understanding of Misakii’s situation and not only forgives her for her involvement with the Sokaigers, but also Blaxon when he redeems himself, and Bongar, Kaprimarah and Ayane when they prove themselves as honorary Gokaigers worthy of his and Marvelous’ respect.

Despite not even knowing of Lord Drakkon prior to the Superhero Infinity War, Gai was understandably shocked and dismayed at the latter's crimes and betrayal of everything the Super Sentai stand for. But he still wished to merely apprehend and de-power Drakkon rather than kill him, in a striking parallel to Peter Parker's own situation with the similarly corrupted Tony Stark. Gai is as sympathetic towards Drakkon’s death as Shin, and given what the motive for this murderous act meant, he saw no use in trying to calm New Captain America down.

Trivia

• Junya Ikeda’s arrest back in 2023 and sentence from November 2024 - November/December 2027 is one of the reasons Gokaiger vs Sokaiger and Marvel vs Super Sentai will have to be made in animated or comic form. At best, Ikeda can be involved with the Japanese language version of the former as early as 2028. However, due to how Japan treats those who commit major crimes (such as special fraud), Ikeda will never be able to return as Gai Ikari (and likely his other roles as well, both acting and VA) in any official capacity.
• Yuri Lowenthal also voiced Peter Parker in the 2018 Spider Man game by Insomniac, and SPD Omega Ranger in Power Rangers Super Legends.
• Some of his moves in the MvSS game are derived from Aquaman in Injustice.
• Gai had previously piloted DaiZyuJin before the final battle with Iron Majin, albeit through GoZyuJin taking on DaiZyuJin's form.
• Gai complimenting Misakii for her willingness to sacrifice her wish on the Second Greatest Treasure calls back to when Marvelous similarly praises Gai for destroying the First Greatest Treasure in Gokaiger’s penultimate episode.
• Gai has the most newly introduced Gokai Changes in MvSS, with Marvelous coming second if one counts a hypothetical use of the Shin Captain America Key he and his crew are allowed to take home.
