Shin Seigi, aka New/Shin Captain America, is the main protagonist of Marvel VS Toei Tokuverse: Superhero Infinity Wars, and it's tie-in game, Marvel VS Super Sentai[1][2].

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Shin was born to Wayne and Ayaka at the end of the second millennium, living a decent childhood, following up on the exploits of the Power Rangers and constantly learning from them the importance of friendship, teamwork, and inclusiveness. When Tony Stark began his tenure as Iron Man[3] and revealed his secret identity to the public, Shin felt somewhat disappointed that more people were starting to think Iron Man is "cooler" and more popular than his childhood heroes, and that some would even ostracize him for his loyalty to the Power Rangers fandom, yet he tried his hardest to stay positive. He didn't quite have the words to put it at the time, but he knew in his heart there was something iffy about Tony Stark, especially given the armored Avenger's shameful secrets and massively flawed perceptions of heroism, which he strongly encouraged his father to be extra cautious about.

In the wake of the Sokovia Accords' conception and introduction[4], not only were Shin's worst fears about Iron Man being realized, but his relationship with his father Wayne took a drastic turn for the worse.

World of the Powerless[]

Five years after Iron Majin asserted himself as ruler of the world, circa 2023, after being stopped by Wayne from saving Kibou from being killed by an Iron Legionite, Shin is finally fed up with his father's idolatry of the Great Betrayer, convinces Ayaka to leave Wayne, and steals the Iron Patriot suit[5] with Spider Man's help to free those imprisoned by the Stark Administration and fight the Tyrant of Steel himself. Though Shin loses, he is saved by the spirit of Aka Red, who upgrades his suit after being impressed by Shin's courage and selflessness in the face of impossible odds. Shin is then told to seek out the Super Sentai in the Toei Tokuverse[6], and goes there with a party including Spider Man, Shuri, Groot, Pepper Potts, and later Black Widow. They recruit the first 40 Super Sentai in reverse order from the Zyuohgers to GoRengers, as well as the Metal Heroes, and Kamen Riders from the original to Decade.

The Battle of Starktopia 01[]

With his army completed in mid-2024, Shin was finally ready to return home and end the Stark Administration's reign of tyranny, reconciling with his dad and reuniting with his family before seeing them off to safety. He leads the Shin Avengers into the Iron Babel, destroying the Administration leaders and the last of the Iron Legion as they made their way to the top, followed later by the remaining Avengers Sentai Alliance. Despite Stark and Drakkon’s initially superior strength, the Alliance ultimately defeats both tyrants, but Stark, still refusing to surrender, spitefully tries to kill Spider Man with an attack than ends up claiming Drakkon’s life instead. Then Shin finally awakens his pent up rage and teleports the Alliance outside the Iron Babel, ignoring Pepper’s desperate pleas. Shin expends most of his legendary weaponry to eviscerate the traitor Stark, ultimately killing him as punishment for all the horrors he unleashed on the people who wanted to make Tony’s life special and tried to tolerate his flaws.

Despite killing the Great Betrayer, Shin was overcome with remorse as he returned to his normal self in front of the Alliance, wishing he had not been pushed into doing it. Even after Shin dissuaded Pepper from taking her own life to be with Tony in death, she was suddenly killed without mercy by the fully revived True Iron Majin. Blaming Shin for all that has happened, the Devil God freezes the entire Alliance in place and snaps his fingers in an attempt to destroy the whole universe, but the Snap costs Iron Majin its immortality and destroys the Dark Infinity Stones instead. Free to move again, Shin is finally able to destroy Iron Majin forever with Spider Man, Shuri, Aka Renger, Kiba Ranger, Gokai Silver, and (Mugen) DaiZyuJin's help, restoring superheroism to its true dignity.[7]

After the War[]

Once Iron Majin was finally destroyed for good, the Alliance helped restore the USA to its former state before the Administration took over the Earth. Shin later gave a speech at Pepper's funeral for the entire universe, reminding everyone to never forget or repeat what the Stark Family had done, and bade the Tokuverse's heroes a fond farewell before letting Morgan into his family so they can finally live in peace.

Profile[]

Shin Seigi

Shin's appearance is modeled directly after Jason in the 2017 Power Rangers movie.

Appearance[]

Shin is the spitting image of Jason Lee Scott, the original leader of his childhood heroes. His striving for the same ideals shows how seriously Shin takes the resemblance.

His armored form takes elements from Captain America's old suit, the Iron Patriot[5][8] suit Shin initially used up to it's destruction by Iron Majin, and Optimus Prime of the Transformers series.

Personality[]

Shin is a reliable, noble, sensitive, thoughtful, compassionate person, a near-perfect marriage of Captain America and Iron Man’s best qualities with a strong sense of justice and an "indestructible heart of gold", largely because he's learned from the mistakes of many other heroes before him. He despises amoral government officials and authority figures like Thaddeus Ross for their hypocrisies, their post-9/11 cynicism, their stonewalling and mistreatment of the younger generation, and greedy desires to control the Avengers[4]; since he refuses to believe in collective guilt, he does not blame any of the other Avengers for the destruction caused in the wake of their battles, especially not the late Steve Rogers, whom Shin genuinely believes was actually trying to mitigate the damage Tony Stark and the UN caused in the first place out of their mutual lust for control. Though he isn't afraid to rebuke or speak out against Lord Stark’s lackeys and supporters when they threaten his friends and loved ones or otherwise step out of line, he still cares for them, including his father Wayne, whom he hopes will eventually see the error of his support for the hero turned villainous tyrant.

Shin is also very wise, responsible, even-tempered, and mature for his age(particularly disagreeing with Tony Stark's reliance on amorality to get results), cares for other people’s rights to their own opinions and actually listens to others when trying to develop the best possible solution to a dilemma, preferring to lead by example and earn the respect of others rather than command it like Tony did. He also strives for the best balance of emotion and logic, and usually tries to reason with his opponents first, except for the Iron Legionites which are incapable of independent speech or thought, and prefers not to escalate a battle except in absolutely necessary situations where lives are in jeopardy. Further owing to the meaning of his name, Shin firmly believes that the idea of no good deed going unpunished is built fundamentally on the folly of those who wish to punish altruism, idealism and diversity of opinion from one (confirmed or speculated) reason to another. He also does not believe in punishing or otherwise “abusing” his teammates (not even Pepper in her moments of defiance) even if it’s to teach them a valuable lesson; instead he freely gives them the feedback they need to improve themselves on their own accord, and accepts their advice in kind when the situation calls for it.

His only known flaws are his inexperience(at least up until his use of the Iron Patriot armor), and the fact that he pressured Ayaka to divorce Wayne and kept his role in the matter secret until Pepper found out. Considering splitting his own parents up as arguably the most difficult decision he had ever made shows that Shin does indeed have a vulnerable side to him, and didn't (originally) consider revealing this fact as relevant to his goals. Shin is genuinely apologetic as he is forgiving, but even after he quickly snapped out of the despair Pepper's desertion left him in and after letting her back into the Shin Avengers, Shin wasn’t ready to forgive himself until after he returned to Starktopia 01 and Wayne rekindled his bond with his family. Any other corrupting traits he might display, or might have displayed, are therefore symptoms of Shin’s belief that Tony Stark’s callous decisions and general irresponsibility will only cause more and more people to be consumed by hatred and vengeance until the traitor is finally punished and discredited.

He found it extremely difficult to see any good in individuals like Nick Fury and Dr. Strange (specifically in light of the consequences) and forgive them, until they could legitimately prove they can swallow their utilitarianism and take responsibility, even though they ended up sacrificing themselves[7]. Shin is firmly against such utilitarian philosophies as hurting or sacrificing the few to save the many, and fiercely disapproved Dr Strange’s fatalism for instance. He held no grudges against the masses for foolishly embracing the Starks’ form of heroism, though, and remained hopeful that they’d come to their senses when the truth comes out.

Despite his boiling hate for Tony Stark and his utilitarianism, he still tried reasoning with him as much as he could. When the time finally came for Shin to have to kill the treacherous ex-Avenger, he deeply regretted it immediately after the deed was done, showing that he was aware of his own darkness, and tried his hardest to keep it at bay for Pepper’s sake, with the hope that the highest authorities of the universe would give Tony the death sentence if need be, rather than Shin. One may argue, the other hand, that releasing his pent-up anger at the evil tyrant, like a computer purging a virus from it's systems, also meant he was finally free from the risk of turning into what Shin hated most. Stark, Drakkon, and Thunderbolt were the only leading members of the Administration whom Shin tried to convince to own up to their crimes and even possibly earn forgiveness, even though all three continued their depravity and met their deaths. Though he is recognized by the public as the true hero of the Superhero Infinity War for uniting the Avengers and Super Sentai and staying true to his values to the end, Shin humbly gives the credit to the entire Avengers Sentai Alliance, as it was his bonds with them and ability to bring them together that made him worthy of the power that finally ended the ancient menace who caused so much death, sorrow, destruction, and negativity for eons.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Repulsor Blasts- Unlike the Iron Man suits, Shin’s blasts can home in on their target, even from afar.
  • Jet Booster Fire- Shin can use the fire coming out of his boots in flight to burn enemies.
  • Teleportation- Shin can teleport himself and those immediately around him to nearly anywhere on either version of Earth. He cannot use it to instantly teleport behind enemies or avoid their attacks, however.
  • Raging Rocket- Shin wraps himself in energy before ramming into an opponent, or right through a SHIELD heli-carrier in a move reminiscent of Captain Marvel destroying Thanos’ ship[9].
  • Unibeam- In addition to the normal straightforward version, Shin uses a splitting version of the Unibeam to destroy all the Jericho Missiles aimed to destroy Japan.[7]
  • The Wrath of Absolute Justice- When pushed into a rage by Lord Stark’s murder of Lord Drakkon(and attempted murder of Peter Parker), Shin gains a power boost that lets him use more than one Greater Power at once, makes his armor near indestructible, and his own attacks strong enough to easily damage Stark’s regenerative armor repeatedly until the auto repair system is utterly destroyed. But the Legendary Weapons themselves are still vulnerable to destruction.[7]

Abilities[]

  • Above Average Intellect- Throughout his life, Shin has "learned a lot from a lot". He was also imparted the vast knowledge of the Super Sentai in the moment Aka Red gave him his New Captain America suit. He correctly reasons that he can't fight Iron Majin without first learning how to use an Iron Man suit, and even after getting an upgraded suit, he chose to master that one's capabilities over the time he takes to gather up the Super Sentai over challenging Lord Stark again right away.
  • Creativity- Shin used his knowledge of the Power Rangers and their related lore, along with the technology Aka Red gave him to conceptualize and develop Super Sentai-related gadgets like new Ranger Keys for the Gokaigers, Battlizer Armors for various Red Rangers, a set of Ranger Slayer armor for Ptera Ranger, and the Tyranno King Saber for himself[7].
  • Emotional Sensitivity and Empathy- Shin cares about other people’s right to make their own judgments about Tony Stark, much as he still wants them to stop discrimination against all superheroes and open their eyes to the evil ex-Avenger’s depravity. He cares about the Tokuverse’s denizens, knows how to earn the Rangers’ trust and respect, and is also willing to go out of his way to help solve problems in the Tokuverse, like developing cures to previously incurable diseases and sicknesses.
  • Strong Willed- As if his stamina and the endurance of either the Iron Patriot or New Captain America suits aren't quite enough to help him survive even some of Iron Majin's strongest attacks, Shin is driven by his will to ensure that right prevails. Despite having no idea how to even put on the Iron Patriot suit at first, Shin pushed himself to learn on the job in his first battle against the Iron Legion[6], and then master it while freeing the other Avengers. This will is also expressed by his refusal to fall for Stark’s charismatic ability to convince people to compromise their own morals for his sake.
  • Bilingualism- Shin speaks fluent English/Japanese and basic Japanese/English, depending on the voice language track chosen for the game or anime.
  • Mecha piloting- Shin has proven to be a competent mecha pilot, learning by crash piloting Zyuohgers’ Ninningers’, ToQgers’ and Kyoryugers’ Robos, and then being able to use older ones with or without his teammates, like Tategami Li-Oh, DaiVoyager, DekaWing Robo, Gao Icarus, Time Shadow, Victory Mars, Mega Voyager, VRV Robo, Red Puncher, and finally Mugen DaiZyuJin.
  • Athleticism and Stamina- Shin’s peak condition is implied to be the result of consistent exercise and participation in sports and the like.

Weaknesses[]

  • Inexperience- Because Shin had little to no prior experience in combat, and especially in using an armored suit, he ran into some (initial) difficulties in using the War Machine Mk. 2 suit. He overcame that weakness over time with the necessary training and in-battle experience, however.
  • Human physiology- Although relying in his inner strength and not immediately using his powers in battle is admirable, Shin is still a human being who can easily be killed without the protection of an armored suit; Peter immediately deduced that this was Shin’s primary complaint with Tony’s confiscation of the Spider-Man suit,[10] and this weakness was exploited by a Legionite when Wayne took its blast for his son.[7]
  • Moral Idealism- Strictly speaking from Tony Stark, Nick Fury, Dr. Strange, and presumably Howard Stark and Thanos’ perspectives, Shin’s inability to condone their morally questionable actions or cross those lines himself for the greater good would only needlessly prolong a conflict and beget more casualties.

Equipment[]

New Captain America suit[]

This new suit Shin received from Aka Red's spirit combines aspects of the Iron Patriot suit and Steve Rogers' original Captain America suit, boasting greater strength, speed, durability, flight capability, and the ability to harness the Super Sentai's Greater Powers. The suit morphs into a wristwatch for easy transportation, and Shin can instantly put it on at any time through the activation call "It's Morphin' Time!", or un-suit by saying "power down". It derives its power source from the Morphin Grid, rather than Arc Reactor energy, with the torso-mounted LED screen able to display the symbol of whatever Sentai team corresponds to the Greater Power Shin is using.

The wristwatch can also track any Ranger's energy signature for Shin and allow him to contact the Neo Revengers back on Earth-199999S through a newly established communication frequency known only to them.

Legendary Sentai Weaponry[]

As Shin meets more Rangers from the Toei Tokuverse, he is able to replicate their Robos' weaponry (and execute their finishers) through his suit's technology, much like the Gokaigers' Gokai Changes, through the command call "I need (_insert robo's corresponding Sentai team name here_)'s Greater Power now!". Because of his choice to recruit the Super Sentai in reverse order, Shin has to wait 5-7 days for his suit to finish copying the data for that Sentai's mechas' weaponry(i.e., he can't use the weapons of the Zyuohgers' mecha until he gets to the Ninningers, or those of the Ninningers' mecha until he gets to the ToQgers, and so on.)

Upon his return to Starktopia 01, Shin is gifted with the Tyranno King Saber, an original weapon made from the Zyurangers’ and Ohrangers’ Greater Powers. He also uses his own temporary copy of Mjolnir against Lord Stark while letting Aka Renger use the Tyranno King Calibur to destroy Drakkon’s Hellfriede.

  • Variblune Drone - He uses this against the Mk. 48 (Hulkbuster 2), but the drone fails to damage it.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Wayne Keener

Shin was always bitterly disappointed with his father's blind, obsessive hero worship of Tony Stark, especially given the Stark family's track record for making enemies on their road to "progress". Their relationship took a turn for the worse when Wayne signed in favor of the Sokovia Accords, but although Shin lost all faith in Wayne as a father after Kibou’s murder, he still cares for the him as a human being. After Shin returned home from the Tokuverse, however, Wayne had finally seen the error of his misplaced devotion and gave his life for his son, admitting Shin is Wayne's real hero all along for taking charge of his own destiny and staying true to his standards.

Ayaka Seigi

Having more in common with her than his father, Shin actively took Ayaka's side when she opposed her husband's misguided support for government control over the Avengers, and agrees with her that Tony Stark is no longer the Iron Man he was, or should be. Pressuring her to divorce Wayne was perhaps the most difficult decision he had to make in his life, knowing Ayaka still tried to love him unconditionally, but Wayne's refusal to condemn Stark for Kibou's death or let Shin try to save his brother was where mother and son had to draw the line.

Shin trusts Thor and Bruce Banner enough to leave his mother under their protection, and he trusts his mother to open Morgan Stark's eyes to the terror her father has become. Like her son, Ayaka also kept silent about her caving in to her son out of fear of being judged or alienated, especially by the likes of Pepper. But even after Dr. Strange secretly probed her mind for the truth, and then used that information to distract the Neo Revengers from pursuing him, Thor, recalling how hard it was for Odin to banish him for his reckless stupidity[11], convinces the Revengers to go easy on Ayaka.

Seeing Wayne and Shin make amends with each other, and the former reaffirm his love for his family by giving his life for them finally gives her closure to the divorce, and Shin promised to return safely after Tony Stark is stopped. With the Super Infinity War finally at an end, Ayaka is able to put the sorrow of her recent past behind her, as she becomes Morgan's stepmother to honor Pepper's memory.

Ai Seigi

Ai is Shin's sister, and her wrongfully being sent to juvenile detention for protesting the Administration's actions is a vital motivating factor for Shin to finally take matters into his own hands. He entrusted the Neo Revengers with breaking her free, and by succeeding they earn Ai's trust.

Kibou Seigi

Kibou is Shin's younger brother, whose death by the Iron Legion is a vital motivating factor for Shin to finally take matters into his own hands. Despite feeling like he had failed his brother, Shin viewed his friendship with Peter Parker as a second chance to be the big brother he should have been, and by the beginning of the Battle of Starktopia 01, had grown close enough to Peter to consider him his brother too. Shin was overjoyed to see his brother alive again thanks to Dr. Strange's Snap, after the latter proves it's really him by remembering that Shin once got a PS2 slim with Final Fantasy 7-10 (including X-2 and Advent Children) for Christmas.

Harley Keener

Like Peter Parker, Harley was also disenchanted with Tony Stark’s hypocrisies after looking up to him for a time, despite being among the child prodigies forced to advance the Administration against their families’ wishes. He managed to escape this fate during Neo Revengers’ battle with Deboth and Sledge and reconnected with his aunt Ayaka, then devoting his talents to helping the Avengers Sentai Alliance; this included helping design and build the Victory Omega for Go Metal. Shin would not reunite with his cousin Harley until the final battle, after which he attended Pepper’s funeral and settled down with Shin’s family along with Morgan.

Friends[]

Steve Rogers

Shin is way more forgiving of the questionable decisions the old Captain America was forced to make, particularly in Civil War; believing that Steve was a victim of circumstances growing out of his control, unlike Tony who shamelessly spat on his friends’ opinions and threw them under the bus to appease the government under the excuse of serving a higher good. After witnessing the hero's televised execution, Shin was understandably heartbroken and his bitterness at Tony Stark worsened. When Rogers was brought back, Shin expressed his desire to fight with the preceding Captain America, just once during the Battle of Starktopia 01.

Just as Shin is very forgiving of Steve’s mistakes, Steve forgave his successor for having to kill Lord Stark as both Captain Americas had hoped Tony would face responsibility and accept being locked up forever, hopefully with Pepper and Morgan being allowed to see him at least once a month. It is said that Shin was made a consultant to the new incarnation of SHIELD after helping Rogers repeal the Sokovia Accords.

T'Challa

Shin has come to respect T'Challa as a true king after watching his speech with the intent of opening Wakanda's borders[12] on TV, or at least hearing about it by word of mouth. Helping Shuri deal with her grief over her brother's execution provides Shin the incentive to learn more about Wakanda, help bridge it's gaps with the rest of the world, and perhaps even assist in their scientific advancements for the good of mankind. After the war, Shin made sure T'Challa's name is among those in the Super Infinity Memorial Wall, and continues the late king’s work in advocating for Wakanda’s sharing of its resources to rebuild and improve the world.

Shin Avengers

Groot, Pepper, Shin, Peter Parker, and Shuri (from left to right)

Peter Parker

Having learned a great deal from Tony's many mistakes with Peter[10], who saved his life and helped him steal the Iron Patriot suit, Shin is more honest, lenient, open, caring, and supportive of the wall-crawler. He proves to be a much better role model, namely by actually listening to him instead of remaining distant and using the morally expedient measures Tony had taken to make Peter a "better hero", and eventually an upstanding older brother figure. Peter also enjoys listening to Shin's "history lessons" about the Super Sentai, based on the massive amount of knowledge imparted to Shin by Aka Red. Shin also quite easily understands at least most of Spidey's pop-cultural jokes, having a similar, good-natured sense of humor himself, and welcomes the levities with open arms in stark contrast to Tony hypocritically rebuking Spidey for it[13]. Peter consented to Shin's recommendation for the team to use comm-links, bearing in mind that Tony put a tracking device on his suit for less than mutually agreeable reasons without first asking for his former apprentice's consent or approval.[10]

Shin and Peter had become so close, almost like real brothers, that when Lord Stark tried to kill his former protégé, Shin could no longer keep his anger to himself and killed the traitor in front Peter, who heavy heartedly accepted that his former idol is finally beyond even his ability to forgive. Once the war is finally won, Parker is finally able to go be a hero on his own, but still remains friends with Shin.

Shuri

Shin not only considers her tech savvy a valuable asset to his team, but also shows early signs of developing feelings for her, be they platonic or slightly romantic. Though she has yet to have any similar feelings for Shin, Shuri nonetheless forges a strong camaraderie with him to fill the void left by T'Challa's death by Iron Majin's hand. Shin did not appear to object to Shuri returning to Wakanda after the war is over, and they still remain friends, despite her duties to her people.

Groot

Shin acts as Groot's second father figure as Rocket stays with the remaining Avengers to fight Iron Majin and Lord Drakkon, and shares his appreciation of life. He was more firm with Groot when it came to the latter's smart-tablet privileges, but it was only because he wants the alien to become more familiar with Super Sentai, so he would promise Groot tips on playing his favorite games when he earned it back. When Groot grew back to his adult form courtesy of the Gingamen, Shin becomes a bit more lax with the alien, as if they’re old war buddies.

During the fight with Red Hulk, Shin heavy heartedly ordered Groot to quickly and painlessly end the mutated general’s life after failing to reason with him. Though Groot could tell Shin still saw Thunderbolt and Stark as humans who needed to face justice under Earth’s laws, they both understood it could not be helped due to how hate-filled and dangerous Thunderbolt and Stark both became. Shin was a bit sad to see Groot leave Earth with the Guardians, but was quickly reassured that they can take care of each other.

Pepper Potts

Meeting Pepper for the first time convinces Shin to try harder to avoid jumping to the decision of killing Stark or having him killed under the law. Despite her faith that Tony can turn himself around, Shin feels torn between forcing Pepper to accept the fact that the man she knew for so long has finally been consumed by his own ego and hubris, and letting her come to terms with it on her own time. Where Lord Stark’s protesters revile Pepper for her complicity and weakness, Shin tries to look past her flaws and see the good in her. Despite them clashing over how to run the team at times, she nonetheless proves her worth to the Shin Avengers time and again. They both hated having to be away from Ayaka and Morgan respectively, but Shin is more patient and always reminds Pepper to trust in the Neo Revengers to protect her daughter and Shin’s mother.

Their relationship came to a brief snag when she learned of how Shin convinced Ayaka to divorce Wayne, leading her to accuse her leader of "scheming to take Tony away" as she ditches the Shin Avengers. Though he was devastated over being screamed at, attacked and deserted by Pepper, Shin expressed no hostility and did not blame her when she came back. Ultimately, it took some convincing from Takeru of the Maskmen for Pepper to make amends with Shin, though she can only hope Tony would surrender willingly when he is defeated, so as to at least spare Shin from carrying out the death sentence, an outcome Shin tried his best to avoid perhaps more for her sake than anyone else's.

Pepper was heartbroken when Shin ended up killing her husband after all, but he was able to remind her that she still has her daughter Morgan, who will need her mother to guide her out of her father's dark shadow. Shin only wanted to help Pepper conquer her insecurities and disprove the notions Tony seeks to impose on everyone, and actually understood how she would feel Shin is the villain in her story for “teaching” her to let go Tony. Although Pepper was tragically murdered by Iron Majin, who wanted to spite Shin for his influence on Pepper, and Shin was greatly saddened by it, he made sure she would be avenged and not forgotten, and let Morgan live with him as his adoptive stepsister as she discards the Stark name out of disgust for her father's sins.

Natasha Romanoff

Shin shares Black Widow's disgust at her and Tony's actions in Civil War, and Tony's worsening egotism and stubbornness. She regrets her mistakes back then so much, she jumped at the chance to redeem herself by helping Shin recruit the Super Sentai. After the war is over, Shin personally saw to it that Nat was desterilized so she can retire peacefully and have children someday.

Clint Barton

Shin is very reassuring to Barton when the latter is cruelly belittled by the Administration and its supporters, reminding Barton he is just as instrumental to the Avengers’ previous victories as all the others. After Iron Majin's death, Shin cited Clint's and his family's suffering as one of the biggest reasons why the Sokovia Accords must be abolished.

James Rhodes

Despite knowing Rhodey helped Tony’s shameful actions along in Civil War[4], Shin recognized Rhodey’s assistance in the Battle of Wakanda as a sign of genuine remorse for it, and War Machine is allowed join the Neo Revengers. After the Battle of Starktopia 01, Rhodes considered facing imprisonment for abetting the corrupt forces that destroyed countless lives, and implicitly out of guilt for failing to save Pepper. Though Shin reminded him that none of this was his fault, he left the decision up to Rhodes.

Bruce Banner

Shin does not blame Bruce for his role in creating Ultron[14], and forgives him for letting Tony buy him off with promises of "peace in our time". Together they made sure that General Thunderbolt would pay for making public enemies of Bruce[15] and the other Avengers[4], so that after losing his Hulk powers forever, Bruce would be able to live in peace with Natasha and never have to fight again.

Thor Odinson

After being rescued from being used as a living battery for Iron Majin's diabolical needs, Thor is grateful to Shin and assumes leadership of the Neo Revengers who stay behind while Shin rallies the Super Sentai. After hearing how Strange had capitulated to Tony's selfish desire to destroy Thanos, he agreed to keep the Sorcerer Supreme from acting against Shin's wishes.

Although Strange let Vision die and spilled the beans about the divorce, Shin assured the Thunder God that none of this was Thor's fault, and convinced him to forgive Shin and Ayaka. After the war, Thor personally thanked Shin for his part in getting through to Loki and bringing the half-brothers back together.

Dr. Strange

Despite saving him, Shin understands why Wanda is so critical of Strange. They believe the sorcerer deserves to be severely punished in some way for letting Tony talk him into challenging Thanos so recklessly without even trying to officially apologize to Steve Rogers, as well as for his willingness to let Peter die if it came to it[13]. Shin had strictly told Strange if he wants to make up for his mistakes, he must play by the Neo Revengers' rules and never sacrifice teammates or civilians for any reason, but Shin never extended that enmity to Wong, whom he counted on to keep the Sorcerer off the wrong path. His disdain for the Sorcerer Supreme is finally dispelled when Strange sacrifices himself to revive the innocents who died because of his and Lord Stark’s actions, so Shin ensured that Strange would be memorialized for his selfless final act.

Yondu Udonta

With the space pirate having been revived in a time travel experiment, Yondu and Shin formed a long-distance bond as a "father"(whose adoptive son had been killed by Iron Majin) and "son"(whose father had been swayed by the hypocrisies Tony Stark exemplifies and panders to). After the war, Yondu personally expressed his respect for Shin and Groot for holding firmly to the ideals of family, before leaving Earth.

Loki

Having heard of the God of Mischief from Thor, Shin convinces the Gokaigers to release Loki after they bump into a dimension hopping variant of his. By relating to Loki about his own conflicted feelings regarding Wayne, Shin is able to convince the God of Mischief to put himself aside and help the Avengers defeat their former most prolific founding member. After the war is over, Shin allows Loki to remain with Thor, expressing his confidence that the God of Thunder will help keep his brother on the right path after they had reconciled and defeated Queen Hedrian.

Super Sentai

Shin wholeheartedly laudes and respects this long line of color-coded superhero teams ever since the "original" Power Rangers(actually the Zyurangers in the context of the Tokuverse) first caught his attention, for staying true to their firm belief in the power of friendship and teamwork. He even allowed individuals like Abare Killer, Rio and Mele to join the Alliance despite their checkered backgrounds. After being told of his childhood heroes' true origins by Aka Red, Shin hopes to get every Sentai team, starting in reverse order from the Zyuohgers, to join his and the remaining Avengers' cause of defeating Lord Stark.

Shin Avengers + Zyurangers + Kibaranger

Shin's reason for recruiting the Super Sentai one team at a time instead of all at once is not only to steadily hone his powers, but to also prove himself to them on a more personal level; and as a result, he becomes very good friends with notably Gai Ikari, who is similarly a dedicated fan before his tenure as Gokai Silver, Kou of the Dairangers, Geki and Burai, the most prolific of the Zyurangers, Gai Yuki of the Jetmen, and eventually Tsuyoshi Kaijou, the real original Red Ranger. Ultimately, Shin's faith in the Super Sentai served to reward the Alliance with certain victory over the Stark Administration and Iron Majin, and Shin proudly assured Tokuverse’s heroes that they would always be welcome back to his dimension if they are needed again.

Kamen Riders

Also respecting them as heroes like the Super Sentai, Shin expresses hopes of getting them into his alliance as well, after clearing up a misunderstanding between him and Kamen Rider Decade. He has apparently heard of them beforehand at his school, through the students confusing or lumping them with the Power Rangers. He forgave Tsukasa for being duped by Lord Drakkon, and also respected Takeshi Hongo enough to let him change his mind on his own time after his initial refusal to join up with the Avengers Sentai Alliance.[7]

DaiZyuJin

The Great Beast God already knew beforehand why Shin so strongly felt Tony Stark is not a hero, but rather "the most dangerous living weapon ever produced", and admires the Shin Avengers' leader for his honesty, appreciation of life, and staying true to himself and his core values. While advising Shin that Lord Stark should be put down, DaiZyuJin understands he shouldn't order Shin to make the kill himself, due to the god's regret over letting Bandora use Burai to toy with his and the Zyurangers' morals, and out of a presumed understanding of how Pepper Potts would be affected. Only when Tony threw Drakkon under the bus in a vain attempt to kill Peter Parker in the process, does Shin finally heed DaiZyuJin's advice and sentence the Tyrant of Steel to death.

After the war, Shin asked DaiZyuJin to revive Yinsen and his family, since Tony Stark’s depraved actions ended up cheapening and dishonoring Yinsen’s sacrifice fifteen years prior[3].

Enemies[]

Tony Stark[]

Death of a False God

Shin finally kills Tony Stark for his crimes.

Shin fiercely despises Tony Stark for his continued betrayal of his better principles and the respect of his former comrades, his insufferable egotism and superiority complex and other flaws[16][17], all of which contributed to Iron Man's final fall from grace[4][10][13][14]. He views the armored anti-hero as a massive hypocrite of the worst kind for selling out his fellow heroes and their values of friendship and teamwork, his desperation in appeasing a corrupt government and their mutual critics who see the Avengers as dangerous vigilantes, antagonizing Captain America in Civil War, defending the "image" of individuals in power who take the Avengers for granted, and disrespecting other people’s right to their morals and opinions. He would also express a similar disgust at Howard Stark for his own role in Tony becoming such a self-righteous snob, believing Howard doesn't deserve to be remembered as a hero either; that both of them protected Earth's citizens only to inflict their will upon them. Shin had personally coined the moniker “Iron Majin” as a symbol of his disgust at Tony, and addressing him as Lord Stark purely under the context that he is the “lord of darkness/death/destruction/doom, etc.” and never as lord of the human race.

Shin also hated the Iron Man suit itself and refused to use one himself to fight, as it would be a grievous insult to his loyalty to the Super Sentai/Power Rangers fandom and their shared beliefs, until he was reminded that it's the man that makes the suit, not the other way around. As such, when Shin first confronted Tony, he called the tyrant "the Iron Man destined to rule the universe", and himself as "the Iron Man destined to save it".

However, Shin tried his hardest to control his impulse to kill Tony or jump to the conclusion that he deserves to die, not only because of Pepper’s mental instability, but to give him a fair and unbiased trial for his crimes. Even after having to kill the tyrant at the last moment, Shin lamented this decision, and how Tony chose to persist in his own folly instead of accept responsibility for all the resentments and toxicity he incited in the hearts of friend and foe alike.

Iron Majin[]

With Tony Stark completing his unwitting transformation into the very thing he despises above all else, a living god of destruction who is an even worse monster than Thanos, Shin is strongly convinced that Iron Man is now the shame of the Avengers, a being of pure evil who wants to punish the entire universe for rejecting his supremely unreasonable take on heroism, that he should be the only superhero in existence.

Shin immediately knew it was the evil god itself that ruthlessly killed Pepper upon its revival, as Tony never wanted to kill Pepper despite her defying his twisted will, but only treat her little better than a trophy in his dystopian world. Iron Majin blatantly shifted all blame for the war’s casualties, like Pepper’s death, onto Shin, his compassion for her, and their refusal to accept Tony Stark as their lord. But even when it briefly seemed all was lost, the Dark Infinity Stones were destroyed and Shin declared his unshakeable faith in his and the Avengers Sentai Alliance's shared values has ensured that Iron Majin's hubris will never prevail. Destroying it with Mugen DaiZyuJin's help allows him to finally put the pain of his past behind him as he and the ASA are hailed as the true heroes humanity needed all along.

Lord Drakkon[]

Shin was shocked to see that Drakkon mysteriously revived and is working with another corrupt soul like himself. But despite Drakkon's depravity, Shin still sees (barely) enough good in him to repeatedly warn him that Iron Majin is most likely using him for his own agenda, under the idea that the mainline Tommy Oliver would have done the same thing. Shin hoped that even if Drakkon wouldn't turn a new leaf, then Drakkon would at least renounce his support of Tony before it's too late, and his warnings were justified in the end; the Tyrant of Steel sacrificed the fallen legendary Ranger purely out of hate for Super Sentai and their influence on Shin and Peter Parker. Drakkon was avenged through Shin verbally and literally eviscerating Lord Stark and killing him.

Musical Theme(s)[]

Shin's theme is a cover of Captain America's theme in Marvel VS Capcom, as produced by GaMetal[18]. This ties into his use of the moniker Captain America to honor Steve Rogers.

Other associated themes are "Fight as One" by Bad City and "Go Go Power Rangers" by Ron Wasserman.

When Shin uses a Legendary Weapon, (a sample or instrumental of) the corresponding "Power Rangers" theme tune plays[19]. For those weapons belonging to pre-Zyuranger mecha, an instrumental of their corresponding insert song is used instead. Some special cases for this are as follows:

  • GoRenger and JAKQ mecha weapons: GoRenger and JAKQ OP themes(fan game only)
  • Dairanger mecha weapons: "We need a Hero"
  • Kakuranger mecha weapons: “5-4-1”
  • ToQger mecha weapons: Power Rangers RPM Beta theme
  • Zyuohger mecha weapons: Power Rangers Wild Force Beta theme

Etymology[]

"Shin Seigi" means "(真の正義) true justice" in japanese, fitting into how Shin acts more like the simpler, traditional heroes he(and his real life creator) grew up with, in stark contrast to Iron Man's unhealthy preference to operate in the shades of gray.

Shin may also mean "(神) god", which can allude to him acting as mankind's savior from the Stark Administration, or "(真) true/truth", in relating to him seeing through Tony Stark's egotistical justifications for his less-than-heroic behaviors[4][10][13][14][16] and encouraging others to do the same.

The name of his team is aptly called Shin Avengers (真 アベンジャーズ Shin Abenjāzu).

Trivia[]

  • Shin has the same japanese voice as Terra, as well as Zero in Mega Man X series.
    • If Marvel VS Super Sentai is a Super Sentai production by proxy, this would by Ryotaro Okiayu's first heroic role in that series.
    • His standing pose seems to be a mix of Mega Man X in his first three games, and Zero in the Mega Man Zero series.
    • His parents are named after Zero's english voice(Wayne Doster) in Mega Man X4 and Classic Mega Man's japanese voice(Ayaka Fukuhara) in Mega Man 11.
      • Wayne's given name could also have been derived from Bruce Wayne/Batman of DC Comics fame.
        • On a semi-related note, Shin's role is similar to Batman's in Injustice: Gods Among Us; both have founded a group dedicated to taking down a corrupt hero gone mad.
  • He was born on the same day the Sega Dreamcast released; September 9, 1999
    • This is also a reference to his origin on Earth 199999 (in an alternate dimension/timeline).
  • The colored edges on the star around his suit's chestplate are, in counter-clockwise order of red, blue, yellow, pink, and green, patterned after the numeric lineup of the GoRengers.
  • The "voice" for his equipment is performed by Power Rangers vocalist Ron Wasserman, drawing from the similar trend which notably concerns the Gokaigers and their own “speaking” equipment.
  • He became New Captain America and left for the Tokuverse on the 30th anniversary year of Power Rangers.
  • Despite looking more like the 2017 movie version of Jason Lee Scott and being portrayed by the same person, his personality learns more on the original TV series version.
    • Like the former version of Jason, Shin also had a pretty sour relationship with his father, until Wayne redeems himself like Mr. Collins, a similar father to another Red Ranger.
    • Speaking of Jason Lee Scott, the Tyranno King Calibur alludes to an unofficial persona of his called “King Tyranno”, whose design is inspired by Tyranno Ranger and King Ranger as a heroic analogue to Lord Drakkon.
  • Shin is the only member of the Shin Avengers who has never died even once in any timeline or dream sequence, whether some version of him does or does not exist in the Prime timeline.
